Gulliver, the business travel blog of The Economist, had this nifty visualisation of the distruption to air travel caused by Iceland’s Eyjafjallajökull last month.

There has been some interesting ‘attempts’ to pronounce Eyjafjallajökull. The ABC’s MediaWatch had the Eyjafjallajökull Challenge. Sandi Toksvig on BBC Radio 4 News Quiz pronounced it correctly. And now Matt Gibson, made a dance remix of Eyjafjallajökull based on her pronunciation. The joys of our interconnected digital world!

UPDATE: 24 May 2010

Just came across this piece from The New York Times. Iceland Volcano Spews Consonants and Vowels has a nice collection of attempts to pronounce Eyjafjallajökull. Here is a collection of attempts by reporters.

I quite like this comment, apparently its an eMail doing the rounds in Norway: “Put 30 billion euros in unmarked bills in a bag by the gate of the Icelandic embassy in London, and we’ll turn off the volcano.” If only it was that simple!
