Debate on Energy Policy: A Marketplace or a Government’s Place?
Launch of The Sydney Globalist (Vol. 7, No. 2), The University of Sydney
21 March 2012

You are invited to attend the launch of Volume VII, Issue II of The Sydney Globalist Magazine, ‘Energy Politics’.

The launch of our next edition will coincide with a debate on the question: “Energy Policy: A Marketplace or a Government’s Place?”. One of the major challenges of our time is whether the government should attempt to influence energy markets to resolve our energy challenges. Is this kind of interference necessary? Can the market be the solution in and of itself? These questions challenge current policy-makers as they attempt to find a solution to our current and future energy problems.

Our distinguished debaters on the night include:

- Ross Gittins, Chief Economics Editor, The Sydney Morning Herald
- Tim Wilson, Director, Free Trade and Climate Change Unit at the Institute of Public Affairs
- Prashanth Shanmugan, Operations Analyst, International Finance Corporation, World Bank Group; and former Political Analyst, Scenario Planning Group, Royal Dutch Shell.
- Dr John Mikler, Academic, Department of Government & International Relations and author of Greening the Car Industry: Varieties of Capitalism and Climate Change

The launch provides an opportunity for the editorial team, esteemed guests from the foreign policy community, and students from a range of disciplines with a common interest in world politics and student journalism to engage with the work of The Sydney Globalist magazine.

Drinks and canapés will be served prior to the event at 5:15pm, followed by the commencement of formal proceedings at 5:45pm.
Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us at editor@thesydneyglobalist.org.
The Sydney Globalist editorial team looks forward to seeing you at the launch.
