From today the London Evening Standard will be given free. No longer will a Londoner have to fork out 50p to the vendor in order to enjoy something more than the celeb-infested rag that is London Lite and that was the London Paper.

My hope is that London Lite folds along with the people handing out the darn paper. We know its a free paper so why have people handing it out on busy roads and intersections. It just clogs up the traffic. Just hope the mX in Sydney and Melbourne also folds along with the bloody people who hand it out. Just give out The Daily Telegraph or Herald Sun for free, its basically the same as mX, that will increase circulation.

The decision by the Evening Standard to go free will be interesting to observe. I think it is a smart move, given the market and location. I do not think it can be replicated everywhere and by everyone. The future of the media will be interesting to watch. In the meantime just keep supporting your favourite rags.
