A few months ago, I wrote about Terje Sørgjerd’s amazing photography of the Aurora Borealis. This time he has filmed a phenomenon which he has dubbed, The Arctic Light “a natural phenomenon occurring 2-4 weeks before you can see the Midnight Sun.”
He filmed this in the Lofoten islands in Norway. I visited the Lofoten archipelago during my travels in the Arctic Circle. Stayed for a few days in and around the town of Svolvær. The islands are simply beautiful.
I travelled by a very small fishing/passenger boat from Narvik. It was a rough journey on the Norwegian Sea. I was one of four passengers. The only non-local. And the only one to have regurgitated his breakfast during the journey. I was happy to re-discover my land legs on Svolvær. The trip back to the mainland was less life threatening. I travelled by catamaran to Bodø. The captain told me that the catamaran was built in Australia, he also added it was cheap! I added, its fair as Norway is expensive.
