Thank God we have a programme like Media Watch to bring some sense to the fickle and tabloid nature of the Australian media.
The story I am referring to can be found elsewhere. In a week that has been filled with news of some significance, say the Australian-Indonesian relationship, various natural disasters, and the Greek economic crises for instance. Why has this story been the lead one in the papers, on TV and on radio? How does it seek to advance the human interest or the human condition?
Mr Holmes, the presenter of Media Watch, sums it up well:
Nobody comes out of these stories with much credit, and nobody loves the media for bringing them to us. But admit it, almost everyone watches, and listens, and reads.
This is a testament to the sad reality of Australia.
