Urbanisation in Europe’s most densely populated country (pdf)
The Holland Times, November 2009

The International Urban Planning Congress was held in Amsterdam last month. Professor Maarten Hajer from Het Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving (The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency) speaks on Dutch urban planing, design and the environmental impact of urbanisation.

“Mick Jagger once said that Amsterdam is the world’s smallest metropolis. According to a new report, it might just get a little bigger. Both the Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (Statistics Netherlands) and the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency are predicating that by 2040 the cities in the Randstad will grow by over 1.2 million people. Which will bring the population of the Randstad to over nine million.”
